[So there's Mae, standing under one big oak tree in the park - one of the City parks - kicking absentmindedly at the fallen leaves. Autumn spirit's kicking in, she's got a bag with a new scarf in her hand, and a book taken out from the library.
That'll be for later. Meanwhile, the pile of leaves continues to grow.]
Must be symbolic, really. There's supposed to be a cycle - circle of life, and everything - that all living things must go through.
But of course, things don't work that way in the City.

A beetle sitting at the base of a skyscraper sees cement and maybe glass. It looks up and sees that continuing forever. It cannot fathom how eternal and strange it is, when all it can see is one small fraction of it.
